What’s In My Bag: The Eye Makeup Enthusiast

By Beauty Blitz / September 16, 2014
Twelve tubes of lipstick? Poetry scribbled on Sephora receipts? Keys to a Harley? You can tell a lot about a person by the contents of her bag. In our What’s in My Bag series, we ask style insiders to spill the contents of their purses in hopes of finding a few gems.

The Subject

Nina Leykind is the co-founder and creative director of one of our favorite English beauty imports, Eyeko. Dubbed a “Mascara Queen” by TIME Magazine, the British socialite has over 16 years of experience in the beauty industry and has made creating a cat eye easier than ever (with a little help from her friend Alexa Chung).

The Bag(s)

“I’m a Chanel faithful… and a multiple bagger! I always wear my wallet-on-a-chain cross body style then carry an additional clutch or tote. I have a great oxblood Chanel tote that gets better looking with age, and color-wise is totally on-trend this season! I also got a tiny Valentino Rockstud bag [1] on a chain recently – it is the prettiest grey shade (it actually matches our newest eyeliner, Making Eyes Waterproof Gel Eyeliner in Dove Grey)! Plus, I’m lusting after one (or more) of the Ines Figaredo bags with eyes all over them! Swoon!!”

What’s Inside

“Mascara is a must and liquid eyeliner takes it up a notch.”
“These pens are perfect for a quick cat eye, or if I'm really pressed for time I just tight line my eyes on the go.”
"I love Chanel Les Beiges compact because it includes a brush rather then sponge. I like to be dewy but never shiny so this perfect for sorting out my T-zone!"
Fashion Week Essentials
“Business cards [5], calendar and notebook [6], Visine [7], mints [8], perfume (Philosophy Amazing Grace [9]), ballpoint pen [10] and whatever my kids have so thoughtfully thrown in!”
The Quirky and Unexpected
“Of course I'm obsessed with eyes at Eyeko! I always wear evil eye charms — I've got bracelets, rings and necklaces. Our graphic designer gave me lots of little evil eye pins [11] that I keep in every bag - you can see one of them here. My kids are always putting things in my bag – sometimes little notes but more often than not, it's a half eaten biscuit or sweetie wrappers. Somehow this purple Eiffel Tower key ring [12] ended up in my bag and never left!”
