The Heat is On Polly Blitzer
Baby, it's cold outside. But it's a scorcher inside. All that dry heat (mixed with harsh winter wind) sucks the moisture out of your skin and can trigger eczema issues. I recently discovered a cult skincare brand from Nova Scotia, Canada, called Skinfix. Created over 100 years ago by a pharmacist in Yorkshire, England, it has a long history in healing dry, sensitive and eczema-prone skin. Lucky for us, it's now available at Target. Their new steroid-free eczema line is an insurance policy against itchy, inflamed skin.I use these four products daily:Skinfix Eczema Soothing Lotion: Soothes and protects skin with 1% colloidal oatmeal. This super-hydrating, lightweight lotion is infused with natural emollient oils of coconut, jojoba and apricot kernel. It leaves skin feeling smooth and soft- not leathery and flaky - all day long.Skinfix Eczema Soothing Wash: Keeps skin healthy and helps minimize eczema flare ups with mild coconut-based cleansers that gently foam to leave skin feeling soft and hydrated, never stripped or dried out. Colloidal oatmeal, aloe vera, sunflower and jojoba oils calm and soften skin.Skinfix Eczema Balm: Treats eczema flare ups and heals severely dry skin with 2% colloidal oatmeal – twice the level of most other eczema products. The medicinal balm creates a protective barrier, reduces redness and soothes irritation. Added bonus: It's a concentrated balm with 0% water content.Skinfix Hand Repair Cream: This award-winning cream relieves dry, cracked and eczema-prone hands immediately on the first application. -
Sunny Days Polly Blitzer
Although the sun can be good eczema, you still need to wear SPF, even in the dead of winter. But it's important to know that sunscreen may irritate the skin of people with eczema. So you should look for unscented, mineral-based sunscreens. And don't rub too hard while applying- you might set off a cycle of itching. To keep reactions at bay, I keep mini treatment products in my bag and take a Skinfix Daily Eczema Regimen Kit with me when I travel. The one-ounce Eczema Balm is TSA-friendly, and you can easily squeeze a four-ounce Soothing Wash and Soothing Lotion into luggage. Add this kit to your packing list. You'll thank me later.

Wool Worries Polly Blitzer
When I wear turtlenecks and winter scarves, all I can think about is how to alleviate the scratchy, ichiness on my delicate neck skin. I've found that the only reliable solution is applying Skinfix Eczema Soothing Lotion right after a shower. The 1% colloidal oatmeal soothes and protects my neck skin, but it's lightweight and emollient enough to instantly hydrate without a major oil slick. -
Overnight Sensation Polly Blitzer
My husband spends the greater part of January scratching himself to sleep. And my legs get super dry from shaving, so my gams need nighttime TLC, too. The problem with scratching itchy skin is that the second you stop, the itching intensifies. Kind of like pesky mosquito bites. But everywhere! We both keep Skinfix Eczema Balm on our nightstand. The 2% colloidal oatmeal instantly alleviates the itch and seems to renew skin overnight. -
Hidden Agenda Polly Blitzer
Eczema can put a damper on your social life. I have a friend who calls in sick when her arms look like a snake molting. She has legit fears of exposing red, scaly arms in meetings or getting caught clawing at her itchy legs. Most people use steroid-based creams to decrease inflammation, but those don't treat a condition. They just calm the skin's reaction. Your shower might be the biggest culprit. Suds and scents strip your skin's natural protective lipids, making your skin raw and vulnerable. An effective regimen starts in the shower. Mark and I just switched to the new Skinfix Cleansing Oil Wash, which gently cleans and hydrates with a combination of jojoba, grape seed oils along with aloe leaf juice.

Helping Hands Polly Blitzer
Sandpaper hands? Check. Chapped knuckles? Hands are susceptible to bouts of eczema, because they're exposed most of the time. The super-rich formula of Skinfix Hand Repair Cream relieves extremely dry, cracked and eczema-prone hands immediately on the first application. An independent clinical study found that skin moisture increased by 110% after one-week of use. I'm not alone in loving this medicinal liniment. It won Redbook’s 2015 Beauty MVP award and TotalBeauty.com Editor’s Pick for best hand cream. Bonus: It's not slimy and won't leave slippery goop on your phone or doorknobs.Advertisement -
Body of Evidence Polly Blitzer
You guys, my beloved readers, know that I rarely recommend an entire collection from one brand. I test dozens of formulas before I pick one star product for each category. But the entire Skinfix eczema range is better than anything I've tried. The natural, time-tested formulas are clinically proven to heal and soothe everything from eczema to rashes to irritation. I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to a cozy, itch-free winter. . .and a bedmate who sleeps soundly throughout January!
