Spring 2014 Microtrend: Engine Grease Eyes

By Klaudia Tirico / September 12, 2013

Grab your black eyeliner and rev those engines, spring 2014 has shown its dark side and we're totally into it. We wouldn't usually pair such heavily lined eyes with our spring ensembles, but the added greasiness gives these looks a bit of sweaty flare that usually comes on a warm spring and summer day. And shows like Rebecca Taylor, Libertine, Jill Stuart, and Cushnie et Ochs prove that it's actually a good thing!

It's not just the eyeliner that matters. It's what goes over it that really brings the look to life. At Rebecca Taylor, MAC artist Sil Bruinsma used used Feline Kohl Power Eye Pencil (1) at the waterline for definition. He, then, greased up the entire lid using Pro Shine Mixing Medium (2). The same technique was applied at Libertine, where butter LONDON Global Colour Ambassador Katie Jane Hughes applied Vaseline Original Petroleum Jelly (4) on the lids (on top of butter LONDON WINK Eye Pencil in Union Jack Black (3)). Aaron de Mey's products of choice for the greasy lids look at Jill Stuart were Givenchy Magic Kajal Eye Pencil in Magic Black under Bobbi Brown Crystal Lip Gloss.

Whether you have time to hit the beauty counter or only have the option to rush to your nearest drug store, there is a way to get this super cool look at home in a cinch. Would you try it?
