A Lightweight Body Lotion for Sensitive Types
By Wendy Rodewald-Sulz / December 8, 2014
When it comes to moisturizers, greasier isn’t always better — especially if you have the type of skin that’s prone to freaking out. True story: I spent the first cold months of the season slathering on a thick body cream that left my legs slimy and never seemed to soak into my skin. I was itchy all over, and had dry patches that refused to vanish. So I switched to using an eczema-friendly moisturizer that happened to cross my desk, not expecting to like it because it seemed way too thin to keep my skin hydrated in the middle of a New York City winter (that’s like a normal Northeast winter, but with crazy hot apartment heat that you can’t control).
But Skinfix Daily Lotion ($24.99) is officially awesome. Its formula features non-greasy emollient oils of sunflower, jojoba and grape seed and skin-soothing ingredients like colloidal oatmeal, calendula and chamomile. Not only does its lightweight texture make it easy to apply, it absorbs into skin better than a rich cream or butter that only sits on the surface. And my sensitive skin appreciates that it’s fragrance-free. I haven’t had an itchy dry patch flare up since I’ve started using it.
The brand, which is based on a formula developed by a UK pharmacist 150 years ago, is big in Canada, so you can be sure it’s cold weather-approved. Its products (including a Hand Repair Cream and a healing Body Repair Balm) have just hit Target shelves in the U.S. I may just survive the winter after all.
