Playing Dress Up at Oscar de la Renta - NYFW Fall 2012

For his Fall 2012 show, Oscar de la Renta envisioned a “young girl playing dress up” - a reference point that showed up in the hair and makeup, too.

Orlando Pita created a teased style that was pinned up in the back and featured custom accessories made by the house’s design team: either a ribbon headband accented with a brooch or a jeweled tiara.

Gucci Westman for Revlon imagined her muse as “playing with her mom’s makeup.” This translated to a look that was “a little bit disheveled” - including Revlon ColorStay Black Liquid Liner drawn on slightly “messy” and multiple, “kind of clumpy” coats of PhotoReady 3D Volume Mascara in Black.

“Oscar doesn’t like when they’re too pale,” Gucci explained, so she created “healthy” complexions using PhotoReady Bronzer and PhotoReady Cream Blush from her spring Escapism collection for Revlon (launching this May). She also used the Highlighting Stick from the same collection on the cheekbones, bridge of the nose and Cupid’s bow. “Most of the people in the audience see them mainly from the side, so they catch this nice highlight,” she said.

Perhaps the biggest surprise backstage was the debut of de la Renta’s first-ever nail polish shades - a last-minute decision made in the days leading up to the show, we learned. Take a look at all three colors used here.
