Old Hollywood Glitz at Badgley Mischka - NYFW Fall 2011

By Kaitlyn Dreyling / February 16, 2011

The beauty look at Badgley Mischka was just as glitzy and sparkling as the clothes - literally. From the crystals in the hair to the scintillating manis, the look was all about the decadence of Old Hollywood parties.

Makeup: Tom Pecheux for MAC

The makeup took a nod to the 40s and 50s, but makeup artist Tom Pecheux gave it a modern twist. "We're doing the crease with navy blue and a highlight on the eye with a very silvery metallic, futuristic eyeshadow," Tom said. "There's a strong eyebrow, and of course we don't put on the false lashes - that's a bit dated - but tons of mascara and liner on the inside for a bit of naughtiness." To complement the strong brow, Tom sculpted the cheek rather than doing a sweet blush look and gave the lips a touch of color with a raspberry hued lip color, MAC One of a Kind Lipstick.

Hair: Peter Gary for Moroccanoil

"The inspiration was a younger Catherine Deneuve," said hair stylist Peter Gary. "It's all about glamour and so I'm incorporating this diamante strip in the part."

To create this rather easy, yet glam look, Peter used Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream to blowout the hair, then used a 1-inch curling iron to create a roller set. After brushing the hair out and twisted the hair from the temples on each side and secured it with an elastic. After creating the chignon with the rest of the hair he used Morrocanoil Glimmer Shine Spray to give it that finished look. To up the glam factor, he used eyelash adhesive on the back of the crystal strip and placed it along the part. "Eyelash adhesive is the best," Peter said. "Because it keeps it in place, but it's very easy to remove." He also commented that the look is elegant, but it's something that any woman could do at home.

Nails: Deborah Lippmann

"The nails are longer and oval - very Mad Men-inspired," Deborah said. "We painted the half moon in shimmering color called Believe that's a little bit of gold and a little bit of silver. And then over the rest of the nail is Ruby Red Slippers, which is a sheer black with big chunks of red glitter. So it's a very edgy version of an Old Hollywood look."
