Matte Makeup and Ballerina Buns at Doo.Ri - NYFW Fall 2012

We saw so much “dewy” (and at times even “sweaty”) makeup during the spring 2011 season that Tom Pecheux’s all-matte faces at Doo.Ri’s fall show felt like a welcome change. “I think it gives a true sophistication,” the makeup artist said of the velvety finish. “It’s a texture that makeup artists...did not love until now. Now the technology allows us to have really beautiful texture that doesn’t look cakey.”
Backstage, that technology came courtesy of MAC Cosmetics: Pro Longwear Foundation and Mineralize Concealer for the base, Powder Blush in Cubic placed low on cheeks, Eye Kohl Pencil in Fascinating to create a white smoky eye offset by Powder Blush in Breezy in the crease and Mattene Lipstick in Hazy Lilac on lips. Artists multi-tasked with white Eye Shadow in Gesso to highlight cheekbones, diffuse eye liner and matte out models’ lips.
Meanwhile, Orlando Pita created what he described a “kind of a ballerina bun, very sleek, very tight,” using T3 Control Hairspray for hold and Kerastase Nutritive Vernis Nutri-Sculpt for shine. The finished look incorporated a leather headband.
On nails, manicurists from Haven Spa polished tips with Essie’s Little Brown Dress.
