These Frosted Eyelashes Will Go Perfectly with the Freezing Weather

Here in New York, the East River is frozen over, two-month old snow piles have turned to 50 shades of gray permafrost, and my entire Instagram feed is single digit weather app screen shots. In short, it is freaking cold.

So why stop at parka bundled selfies and instead just go full-on yeti in the beauty department? The white eyelashes at Marques’ Almeida’s London Fashion Week show are giving me major inspiration. The look, created by makeup artist Terry Barber for MAC Cosmetics, made models look like they fell asleep in a snowbank, where ice crystals frosted their lashes. The effect is definitely freaky, but it’s also kind of beautiful.

White eyelashes can look surprisingly cool in real life, too. When I visited Tokyo a few months ago, the talented and über-stylish nail artist who gave me this epic manicure was wearing snowy platinum lash extensions the day I met her. Hers were softer and less clumpy than the runway version, and looked even cooler — I couldn’t stop staring at them as she hand painted eyeballs and cobwebs on my fingertips. I wish I’d taken a picture, but trust me when I tell you they were subtle and super pretty.

As for the Marques’ Almeida lashes, they look to be part of a larger trend toward eyelash adornment for fall. In New York last week, Carolina Herrera’s Duo-adhesive-and-glitter-flecked falsies were meant to mimic the look of raindrops. I’ll be saving that take for the eventual thaw.
