Golden Globes 2014: Our Biggest Beauty Hits and Misses Beauty Blitz
The Golden Globes not only mark the start of awards season, they happen to be the most exciting red carpet for spotting beauty eye candy. Here, we’ve rounded up the best — and the worst — of the night’s hair and makeup statements.

Big Hair Beauty Blitz
HIT: If this red carpet is any indication, big hair is going to be a major trend, and Kate Mara’s matte textured, slightly mussed updo made us want to reach for the dry shampoo.
MISS: Amber Heard’s matronly style gave us a prairie wife vibe that was way beyond her years.

Jewel-Toned Eyes Beauty Blitz
HIT: Olivia Wilde’s amethyst smokies complemented her green sequins without getting all matchy-matchy.
MISS: Kaley Cuoco’s emerald eye shadow looked clownish and clashed with her gown’s muted palette.

Bob Haircuts Beauty Blitz
HIT: “This is basically how it looks if I don’t do anything, except it looks a lot better,” Elisabeth Moss said of her perfectly undone cut.
MISS: Reese Witherspoon’s asymmetrical style would have looked way cooler without the wispy bangs.

Red Lips Beauty Blitz
HIT: We loved Lupita Nyong’O’s lacquered lip almost as much as we adored her off the shoulder Ralph Lauren cape dress. Makeup artist Nick Barose used Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour in Pirate topped with a bit of gold eye shadow.
MISS: Something about Jennifer Lawrence’s brick red shade didn’t jibe with her complexion — or her gray-blue eye shadow.

Sloppy Buns Beauty Blitz
HIT: You can’t take yourself too seriously when you’re wearing a dress with pants underneath. Emma Watson’s loose, deliberately wispy chignon made her look cool and youthful.
MISS: Paired with his scruffy beard, Jared Leto’s man bun reminded us of that weird guy in yoga class.

Glowing Pregnant Ladies Beauty Blitz
TRIPLE HIT: Drew Barrymore, Kerry Washington and Olivia Wilde were a trifecta of gorgeousness in varying degrees of baby bumpitude.

Braids Beauty Blitz
HIT: Sarah Hyland scored points with beauty editors everywhere when she spilled that her hairstyle was inspired by a Valentino runway look.
MISS: Amy Adams’ braided updo looked more suitable for prom than it did paired with her (hot!) plunging neckline dress.

Tans Beauty Blitz
HIT: Amy Poehler showed how to do bronze right, with a radiant golden glow that extended from her complexion (makeup artist Brett Freedman used Votre Vu Love Me Deux tinted moisturizer to “give Amy’s skin a lift of color”) to her shoulders and arms.
MISS: Even Bradley Cooper’s piercing blue eyes couldn’t save him from his overly shiny, tan complexion.

Slick Hair Beauty Blitz
HIT: Allison Williams' slicked side part was the perfect frame to her porcelain complexion and platinum-rimmed eyes.
MISS: Hayden Panettiere’s slicked back ‘do looked a bit greasy, and the height didn’t flatter her facial features.

Faux Bobs Beauty Blitz
HIT: Cate Blanchett was the epitome of elegance with her Grace Kelly-inspired unwrap created by Robert Vetica using Vidal Sassoon Pro Series.
MISS: We're over seeing Taylor Swift in the same faux bob over and over again on the red carpet. Let's switch things up for the Grammys, Tay!
