A New Scent to Set the Mood for Chilly Nights

By Wendy Rodewald-Sulz / November 7, 2014

Even though stores are already hanging their holiday decorations and hawking candles that smell like sugarplums and gingerbread, we’re not quite ready to embrace such literal odes to winter. Still, beachy scents hardly seem appropriate now that the sun is setting before 5pm every night.

But Fornasetti Profumi, maker of luxurious scented home accessories emblazoned with aritst Piero Fornasetti’s iconic designs (you’ll probably recognize his series based on the face of opera singer Lina Cavalieri), has just the fragrance for these increasingly chillier nights. Malachite is the brand’s fifth scent, which launches this season as part of a collection whose signature pattern is inspired by the semiprecious stone. With notes of pine needle, clary sage, galbanum, cedarwood, patchouli, amber, sandalwood, olibanum and styrax, the rich green and smoky scent is ideal for cozying up indoors — without hitting you over the head with “festive” flavors. What’s the rush?

The Malachite Scented Candle ($180) and Malachite Grande Scented Candle ($545) are available at Barneys New York.
