#FlashbackFriday: 12 Unforgettable Looks in VMA History Klaudia Tirico
The red carpet and performance looks at the MTV Video Music Awards are, by far, the most R-rated and outlandish compared to any other awards show. After all, it's MTV! From it's debut in 1984, the show has always brought the wow-factor and WTF? moments that we simply cannot forget. From Lil' Kim's purple pasty to Beyonce's baby announcement on stage, we're taking a look back at some of the most memorable looks in VMA history before the celebs strut their stuff in Brooklyn this Sunday.

Cher, 1984 Klaudia Tirico
For the first-ever VMAs in 1984, Cher's purple eye shadow, platinum mullet, lace headband and chandelier earrings reigned supreme on the red carpet. Funny thing is, if she wore this look now, she'd probably still look the same. The woman just doesn't age!

Drew Barrymore, 1995 Klaudia Tirico
Leave it to Drew Barrymore to rock daisies in her blonde bob while sporting a black gown (she designed it herself!) and your typical 90s makeup. Our favorite flower child has said, "I'm not intimidated by what I see on models. I play with clothes and express myself."

Spice Girls, 1997 Klaudia Tirico
Ah, the Spice Girls. Does anyone else miss these ladies as much as we do? When MTV's Kurt Geiger interviewed the British pop group on their looks, Geri Halliwell (aka Ginger Spice) chimed in by saying, "Well it’s not Wonder Woman; it’s the American Flag.” She then continued to ask him if he felt horny. Now that's girl power!

Gwen Stefani, 1998 Klaudia Tirico
Gwen Stefani has always set the bar high when it comes to red carpet looks. We will never forget her creative fashion choices - bindis, technicolor hair, braces - during her No Doubt years. When asked about her fur bikini top on the 1998 VMA red carpet she answered, "You know what’s interesting - this year, since we’re not doing anything and just hanging out, I had a lot more time to think about my outfit... like a half hour.” The reported then asked about her idea of sexy. Her answer: "I think anything that can make you laugh is sexy.”

Rose McGowan & Marilyn Manson, 1998 Klaudia Tirico
Rose McGowan left little to the imagination when she escorted Marilyn Manson to the 1998 VMAs. Sorry Marilyn, but your red hair and leopard suit weren't enough to take everyone's eyes off Rose's bod.

Lil' Kim, 1999 Klaudia Tirico
Who could forget the purple flower pasty (and matching wig!) Lil' Kim rocked on the red carpet in 1999? In an interview with Rebecca Romijn for MTV News, the model asks, “Did you have to work yourself up to this or were you like, ‘Yeah, I’ll wear that!'” Lil’ Kim answered, “I was like, 'Yeah I’ll wear that!'” We don't think she ever thought Diana Ross would fondle her breast when she chose this get up.

Pamela Anderson, 1999 Klaudia Tirico
Pamela Anderson was ahead of her time when she wore this extra large furry hat at the 1999 VMAs. Marc Jacobs sent models down the runway of his Fall 2012 show in very similar headgear! Coincidence?

N*Sync, 1999 Klaudia Tirico
This is how we will always remember N*Sync - Justin's tight curls, Joey's red hair, Chris' glasses and dreads. If the rumors of their reunion this Sunday are true, we hope they go the extra mile and coordinate their looks like the old days.

Britney Spears, 2000 Klaudia Tirico
We can probably do an entire round up of Britney Spears' VMA looks, but this one tops them all. When she ripped off that black tuxedo to reveal this nude number on stage while performing "Oops! I Did It Again," everyone's mouths dropped. We're convinced that she was the one who started the "vajazzling" trend.

Christina Aguilera, 2003 Klaudia Tirico
"I love how the pink offsets the black hair," Christina told MTV News in 2003. "I love the feathers!" The Roberto Cavalli number really stood out on the red carpet, but we couldn't stop staring at her barely-there brows and weird nude lip.

Lady Gaga, 2009 Klaudia Tirico
Lady Gaga may have made headlines with the infamous meat dress she wore to the 2010 VMAs, but it was her outstanding (and awfully bloody) performance of "Paparazzi" in 2009 that we can't stop thinking about. She told reporters, "People like Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, and even someone like Princess Diana who was isolated - you didn’t really get to see the demise of these women. So I wanted to do kind of a moment that filled in the blank image that no one’s ever gotten to see.”

Beyonce, 2011 Klaudia Tirico
A baby announcement in US Weekly is so overrated. So how does power couple Beyonce and Jay-Z reveal their bun in the oven? By showing off the bump on live television - duh! In an interview with Katie Couric, Queen Bey said, "Physically I was starting to show, so it was only a matter of days before someone zoomed in. So I just wanted it to be from me, and I wanted it to be something that was a celebration of something so beautiful. And I didn't want to release a picture or a statement. I figured the biggest statement was to -- just be." Beyonce's glow during her big reveal is definitely a VMA look we will always remember.
