Ethereal Forest at Creatures of the Wind - Fall 2012

By Klaudia Tirico / February 10, 2012

The Creatures of the Wind Fall 2012 collection was inspired by "a book from the 17th century called, The Secret Commonwealth: Of Elves, Fauns and Fairies," said designer Chris Peters. The hair, makeup and nails depicted elements a forest - with "ethereal, radiant skin." The overall look was a whimsical fantasy, without conflicting the patterns and prints in the collection.

James Boehmer for Nars created a strong eye by drawing all around the eye, leaving the lid bare. "We literally drew the shape of a smoky,90s cat eye with a pencil, then blended it down so it was transparent," said James. He used Nars Mambo Eyeliner Pencil and the rose gold shade of Kuala Lumpur Duo Eyeshadow on the brown bone and inner corner. To finish the look, James applied Rouge Tribal Larger Than Life Lipgloss (new for Spring 2012) on the lid. "It's like a halo around the eye," said James, "no mascara." The "ethereal, forest-west skin" was created with Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer - "you can't use enough moisturizer," he added.

Odile Gilbert for Kerastase said the designers wanted a "mix of wave in the front, and packed in the back" for the hair. She created a bird's nest-type collection of scrunched hair and braids woven together in the back with a glamorous wave in the front. "It's one part Hollywood, one part New York," said Odile. The finally touches were the designers' own rubber flower wreaths and a "tiny touch" of gold glitter spray.

The forest-y feel was rounded up with a layering of two different Essie colors on the nails - two coats of Sew Psyched, followed by one coat of Mint Candy Apple. "The color is universally flattering," said Essie Weingarten - creator of Essie.
