A Colorful Showing at Tracy Reese - NYFW Fall 2011

By Wendy Rodewald-Sulz / February 16, 2011

For Fall 2011, the beauty vibe at Tracy Reese was fun, colorful and '70s-inspired - just like the clothes.

Makeup: Mally Roncal for Mally Beauty

"Tracy's show has a lot of metallics, a lot of really beautiful colors, so we wanted to play on that," makeup artist Mally Roncal explained. On a base of "healthy" skin, Mally applied Get Cheeky Dewy Blush in Fely's Flush up toward the cheekbone, marrying the color into the eye. Evercolor Shadow Sticks in Rosey Taupe, Topaz, Saddle Shimmer and Copper gave eyes a metallic, smoky look while a sprinkling of custom-blended glitter on lids and inner corners added a "rock and roll" vibe. Bold bottom lashes were key to the overall "very Twiggy, eye-opening effect", and Mally applied falsies to some girls plus four coats of Ginormous Mascara. Want to try it at home? To avoid flaking mascara, "apply it in stages and let it dry a bit in between," Mally recommends. She finished the look with a sheer pink glittery gloss, her Facets Gemlights Lipgloss in Pink Sapphire
Hair: Jeanie Syfu for TRESemme

Hairstylist Jeanie Syfu conceived a look that mimicked the colors and texture in the designer's collection. After prepping hair with 24-Hour Body Mousse, "We created deep waves with a 1-inch curling iron," Jeanie said. "It's a reverse curl, so we're going in one direction and then flipping it over the other way, so it's more of a wave." She started the texture lower on the head to give it a '70s feel ("not too glamorous"), then brushed through with Fresh Start Dry Shampoo for a "soft and airbrushed" look. Jeanie also designed a color palette for each girl based on her runway look; she used spray-on color from Ricky's to shade models' hair.

Nails: Anette DeVita for Sally Hansen

Tracy Reese collaborated with Sally Hansen for the 11th season in a row on a line of nail colors. The collection debuts this fall with six shades, including the Shiny Penny and Oxide colors that models wore on the runway.
