Cindy Sherman for MAC
MAC has a history of collaborating with shape shifters - Lady Gaga and Wonder Woman are two recent examples - but the beauty brand's latest face may be its biggest chameleon yet.
MAC has tapped contemporary artist Cindy Sherman, famous for transforming herself into characters - many of them a commentary on female stereotypes - in photo series such as her iconic Untitled Film Stills 1977-1980.
For the Cindy Sherman for MAC collection, which launches September 29, the artist transforms herself into three characters: a garish-glam mob wife type, an ennui-afflicted pink-haired clown and a ringleted, pink-cheeked good girl parody.
The collection itself features three sets of products, each corresponding to one of the looks. Lipstick, mascara, brushes, bronzer, Pigment, Fluidline, even nail polish all make an appearance.
And while it may be Sherman's first foray into the beauty business, she's collaborated with fashion houses before: Comme de Garçons, Marc Jacobs and Balenciaga have all tapped her talents. We'll leave the meditation on art and commercialism to the critics. Let's just say we can't wait to get into character.
