A Beauty Guide Goes for the Gut

The Beauty Detox Solution by clinical nutritionist Kimberly Snyder may be the ultimate beauty guide. But you won't find advice here about slathering on creams and serums or getting Botox injections. Instead, the book is about ridding the body of toxins in order to achieve radiant skin, strong hair and a flat belly. Don't let the title fool you; this detox urges you to change your eating habits for the long-haul, not just for a three-day span.

In the book, Kimberly argues that in order to create health and beauty, we need to create energy. She writes that 50 to 80 percent of our total body energy is used in digestion (no wonder all I want to do is snooze on the couch after every meal!), and that we need to make the process more efficient. That means eating foods in the right order. If we don't "stack" our food correctly, Kimberly explains, it can lead to an intestinal traffic jam - as if a Porsche were stuck behind a Land Rover stuck behind a sixteen-wheel truck.
