Backstage at Vera Wang - NYFW Fall 2011
Vera Wang's Fall 2011 collection was about mixing structured elements with flowing fabrics, which was reflected in the hair, while the makeup went for a strong eye look to complement the color palette of the clothes.
Hair: Orlando Pita for Moroccanoil
The hair is a little scraped back and then we're teasing the hair to have a little volume and creating this little pontytail that gets tucked under so you domnt see the elastic" Orlando explained. "So it kind of reflects the clothes. We have the structured part in the front, but then it goes into hair that's more loose and flowy." He used the Moroccanoil Hairspray to blowdry and style the hair.
Makeup: Lucia Pieroni for Cle de Peau Beaute
"The inspiration is a 1930s American woman, quite willowy, quite boyish looking,"Lucia said. "It's kind of masculine as well as feminine. The look is kind of a dark smoky eye - it's sort of androgynous, sort of slightly shiny, glowy faces with a strong smoky eye." She used the Limited Edition Cream Eye Color in Moonshadow from the Fall 2011 collection. "The clothes are feminine, so we wanted to toughen up with the makeup."
Nails: Myrdith Leon-McCormack, Nail Artist
Photos: Mat Szwajkos
"Vera likes her nails minimal," Myrdith explained. "So we picked Dior 500 which is a sheer pink petal. It looks very natural on the nails and give a nice polished finish."
