Athletic Elegance @ Monique Lhuillier - NYFW Spring 2012

The look at Monique Lhuillier was all about the powerful woman - elegant, but sporty. The models all walked down the runway with a look inspired by a jogger (but in better clothes and crazy blue eyeliner).
Val Garland for MAC said the makeup was all about the eyes. She created a "swoosh" eyeliner - an ode to the Nike swish - with no mascara and dewy skin. "The look is fast, sporty, sexy - with a "just do it" attitude," said Val. The eyebrows were groomed and extended a bit longer to give the idea of movement and speed, while the lips were left with just lip conditioner "to make it sporty and young." Val layered a cobalt blue liner - created with MAC Chromacake, a paste to which the pros add water to achieve the perfect line - over a black liquid liner. To get the look at home, Val recommends marker tip liners.

The jogger look continued with the hair by Odile Gilbert for Kerastase who created a very tight (emphasis on the tight), slicked high pony. Odile wanted the girls’ hair to look like a horse's tail, an effect she created by teasing the pony for extra oomph. The reason for the high pony? To complement the evening wear by revealing the neck and shoulders.

Wanda Ruiz for CND opted for "soy milk" manicures and midnight blue pedicures. On fingers, she used two coats of CND Colour in Cream Washed with one coat of CND's Super Shiny Top Coat over it. The "cloudy night sky" pedicure can be created with CND's Midnight Sapphire and a limited edition CND Violet Shimmer Effect on top. Mismatching your nails and toes is so next season!
