Not-So-Classic Prairie Girls at Band of Outsiders - Fall 2012

"How you wish to look on your best camping trip ever," said Shiseido Artistic Director Dick Page backstage about the makeup at Band of Outsiders. The "dusty" look had minimal color, but made a huge statement. The models looked a little toasty with a white highlight in the eye and strong brow. The collection was split in two parts: Girl/Girl and Boy/Girl. "The only difference in the makeup was that the Girl/Girl's have a slash of red on the inside of the lip," said Dick, "kind of brutal and a little bloodied" (he used the new Lacquer Rouge lipgloss in Nocturne which hits stores in August).
The dusty look continued over in hair where Duffy for Bumble and Bumble created a not-so-classic prairie girl style. "It's an idea of a real girl that lives," he said. He created a "uniform, dry, dead texture" using zero brushes or combs. He saturated the hair with Thickening Spray and over-dried the hair. "You get to a point when you're over-drying products that the hair becomes stiff and hard," he said. "The products start to crumble like clay." The result: "a raw, dusty feel."
