Ladies in Red (Lipstick) at Tadashi Shoji - NYFW Fall 2012
Let’s set this straight: while the coifs Rodney Cutler created at Tadashi was pulled back in a sort of bun, it was decidedly “not ballerina,” the hair stylist explained backstage. Instead of the slicked back dancer’s ‘do, the front of this “U-shaped roll” was pulled out softly to offset the face. “It’s all about prep,” Rodney said; here, a foundation built with a cocktail of Redken Rootful 06 Root Lifting Spray, Nature's Rescue Radiant Sea Spray, Fashion Work 12 Versatile Working Spray and Powder Grip 03. To style, Rodney pulled the hair back in a low ponytail, then rolled it up around a curling iron (“like rolling a joint,” he joked) before pinning with hairpins.
The elegant hairstyle was the perfect complement to the clean, beautiful complexion and standout red lip created by Luke Bouchard for MAC Cosmetics, who used a tube of the brand’s mega-pigmented Lipmix in Crimson (from the Pro product line) to create a color that flattered “all skintones.”
Finally, manicurists from China Glaze painted models’ nails with Heart of Africa, a metallic red lacquer set to debut as part of the brand’s summer collection.
