Deserted Beach Vibe at Rebecca Taylor Spring 2013
"The spring collection was really inspired by having the summer in New York, but dreaming of having a summer in Hawaii," said designer Rebecca Taylor of her latest collection. "It's all about nude, black, and cream, mint, but with real highlight colors of Hawaiian tropical coral and turquoise." That color palette translated to a beach babe for the beauty look.
"This girl looks like she just came walking off of a deserted beach, so it's very windswept like a Peter Lindbergh [photograph]," explained lead makeup artist Sil Bruinsma for MAC. He warmed up the skin with MAC bronzer in Soft Sand and added highlights with MAC Cream Color Base Pearl. "The eyes look sultry, but not too made up," Sil said. "It's more about a shade than a real eyeshadow." He smudged MAC Eye Kohl in Teddy and MAC Eye Shadow in Twinks in the inner and outer corners of the eye and blended MAC Cream Color Base in Root on the lid.
MAC was also sponsoring nails (for the first time!) with manicurist Marian Newman. "We're using Screaming Bright, which has a burnished quality, so it's like the sun reflecting off the beach," she explained. There was only one coat of the highly pigmented lacquer, and Marian opted for no top coat, since she liked the metallic finish.
Kevin Ryan for Aveda created an effortless hairstyle that's inspired by a girl on a roadtrip with "a mixture of air, salt and life in their hair." He blow dried Aveda Volumizing Tonic into the hair and used a flat iron to create volume and natural-looking buckles in the hair. He also used Aveda Air Control to spray in air and hold for a "fluffy" windswept look.
